Same-Day Driver Medical: How to Get Seen Today
Whether your licence renewal deadline has crept up, your new employer needs a completed D4 form before you start on Monday, or you simply did not realise you needed a medical until this morning: we understand. We know how important it is to get things sorted quickly, and we have built our clinic schedule specifically to help drivers in exactly that situation.
The good news? In most cases, you can get your driver medical done today.
Can you get a same-day driver medical?
Yes. South Wales Driver Medicals regularly sees patients on the same day they call. We run frequent clinics across seven locations in South Wales and Bristol, and we keep appointment slots available specifically for drivers who need to be seen urgently.
Same-day availability applies to all of our driver medical services, including:
- HGV / LGV medicals (the DVLA D4 medical examination)
- PCV medicals for bus and coach drivers
- Taxi medicals for local authority licensing
- Forklift medicals, airside medicals, and more
There is no premium or surcharge for a same-day booking. You pay the same price as any other appointment.
How to book a same-day appointment
Getting seen today is straightforward:
- Call us on 02920 30 90 76. This is the fastest way to check availability across all our clinics. Our team will find the nearest slot for you, often within the hour.
- Tell us what you need. Let us know which medical you require (HGV, taxi, PCV, etc.) so we can confirm you are booked into the right appointment.
- Turn up with the right documents. We will confirm exactly what to bring when you call, but there is a full checklist below.
If you prefer to book online, you can do so through our contact page, though calling is quicker when time is tight.
Info
Tip: If you are unsure which medical you need, just tell us what licence or job role it is for. We will point you in the right direction. You can also check our HGV medical page for details on the D4 examination.
Which clinics offer same-day?
We have seven clinic locations, and same-day availability is common across all of them. Availability depends on the day and how busy the clinic is, which is why calling ahead is always the best approach.

All seven locations use the same phone number, so one call is all it takes to find where and when you can be seen.
What to bring (even if it's urgent)
Being in a hurry does not mean cutting corners. The thoroughness of your examination is not affected by how quickly the appointment is booked. To make sure your appointment goes smoothly and your paperwork is completed correctly first time, please bring the following:
Info
Your same-day appointment checklist:
- Your photocard driving licence (or passport if your licence is not available)
- A completed D4 form (if you have one; if not, we can provide one at the clinic)
- A list of any current medications you take, including dosages
- Your glasses or contact lenses if you use them for driving
- Details of any recent hospital visits, diagnoses, or ongoing conditions your doctor is managing
If you wear glasses for driving, bring them. The eyesight check is a key part of the examination.
The medical itself typically takes around 10 minutes. Dr. Al-Hassan and his team are known for being thorough without keeping you waiting, something our patients mention again and again in their reviews.
